2/25: IMPRINT OF A SPACE due Tuesday 3/4

IMPRINT OF A SPACE
DUE TUESDAY 3/4

For this assignment you will be doing an extended study of the figures and figurative moment within a specific space. The goal is to include the idea of gesture into a finished drawing.

This space can be looking outdoors or indoors, but the assignment should represent 4 hours of work.  So bear that in mind when choosing your location.

Choose a location where you can comfortably work and sit for a several hour long study.  In this drawing you will aim to capture the figurative moment(s) within a space through gestural study.  You could focus on one figure's movement over time, or focus on an entire group's movement.  Include drawing of the space itself as well, whatever elements you deem necessary to give the figurative moment(s) conceptual context (nature? time? food? furniture?).

Questions to be answered in your drawing:

How can you show movement of a figure through a space?

How do you show the passage of time through a drawing?

How specific will you take the figurative gestures?  Do some gestures show a quick movement, while others show a longer pose?  How can you show a figure at rest vs. a moving figure?  How can you relay this information to the viewer through drawing mark?

You must result in one 18"x24" drawing.  Use your drawing paper.

You may do one long study of one space.  Or pick two locations for a compare/contrast.  Imagine the conceptual implications of what you choose, and how best to relay this information in form.  As always, consider and treat the final product with care (ready for presentation).
